Are we carrying burdens that we should have put down

“You are dumb, just like your father” these are the exact words, i remember them like they were 5 minutes ago. I was 8 years old, trying to cope with the separation of my parents, I was lost. And yet this adult decided to take his grievance out on my father on me.

It felt burnt as the potato in a the jacket that I was trying to eat.

Then it was every negative comment, I took on as my own.

Every slight, every bully and everything I did “wrong” in my life.

It was only later that I leant that other people project their negative thoughts and feelings and that we are not responsible for their own insecurities or problems.

Only once I started to heal, that I realized that I was carrying a backpack of other peoples crap.

And that off loading them helped immensely in freeing me up

I am a person of worth, I have valid feelings, I am loveable and I can love.

Don’t let other peoples words drag you down.

Hi, I'm Carl — founder of Hero's Journey Hypnotherapy.

I built this practice because I needed it. In my own life, I've faced grief, loss, and the kind of pain that gets hidden away until it can't be anymore. What I've learned, the hard way, is that it's possible to move through even the darkest nights — and come out the other side more whole, not less.

This is the place I work from: lived experience, an understanding ear, and a genuine belief that you're not something to be fixed.
